”Oh My God! Such a pity Gargantua is just a myth and can’t get a chance to try the bottomless meal from the fantastic sugar shack Labranche. Needless to say that this is an opportunity for us to actually play that role for a few hours by stuffing ourselves with yummy dishes from Quebec and tons of maple syrup.
For non-locals, you may be wondering what the heck is a sugar shack the first time you hear it. But other questions may pop up such as “do you go there to eat sugar only?” “And why is it so famous in Quebec?”.
So let’s start with the basics first so that my readers outside Canada understand what this is about and make sure to add the sugar shack in their tick list when visiting this beautiful country.
A sugar shack or “cabane à sucre” in French is a semi-commercial establishment that refers to a house where maple syrup is processed. Every spring, as soon as the maple sap starts flowing, sugar houses open throughout Quebec. It is a unique tradition from the Province where visitors get to eat gut-bursting meals topped off with loads of maple syrup”.
